OSCAR Downstream joins the Romanian brands awarded this year for impactful social campaigns for families with children
Bucharest, February 17, 2025– The Creative Recycling Caravan, a project carried out by OSCAR Downstream and the PlaYouth Association, adds a new recognition to its list of distinctions, being acknowledged for its impact on children and parents at the Leaders for Little Leaders Gala – powered by Itsy Bitsy.
OSCAR Downstream joins the Romanian brands awarded in the "Edutainment Leadership Award for business organization" category, including IKEA, LEGO, Auchan Romania, AQUA Carpatica Kids, Veruvis KIDS, Banca Comercială Romanian, PPC, Essilor, Crystal Dental Clinic, Medicover and Electrolux.
"It is an honor to stand alongside companies that are representative of their fields of activity, leaders who understand to assume social responsibility for a sustainable future in Romania," says Nicolae Bănică, CEO of OSCAR Downstream. "OSCAR Downstream believes in the power of the business environment to build a better future, but also in the change that starts with ourselves – and, with us, with those around us. The Creative Recycling Caravan takes place at school, but it generates, first of all, an immediate impact on the family, on the relationship between children and parents. Participants learn about responsible consumption and understand that their decisions and actions have a long-term impact. Over time, these behavioral changes that occur within the family, repeated in every home in the community, trigger an irreversible transformation and contribute to the sustainable path of the entire society."
Luiza Dumitru, Communication & Marketing Director OSCAR Downstream, adds: "The Caravan for Creative Recycling is a special project for us, because it focuses on children and addresses two key areas in our sustainability strategy – education and the environment. The project grows from year to year and we are happy to see how it begins to transform local communities. We have recently launched the third edition and already the enthusiasm of the participants (students, teachers, parents, social actors) promises that we will have a new successful campaign".
The Sustainable Recycling Caravan is a national project dedicated to teachers and students in pre-university education, which encourages the creative recycling of waste and awareness of the effects of consumerism on the environment. After the first two editions, the campaign reached approximately 135,000 indirect beneficiaries and developed creativity and sustainability hubs in 12 counties in the country - Călărași, Giurgiu, Brașov and Sibiu (in 2023) and Sălaj, Bistrița Năsăud, Arad, Timiș, Satu Mare, Maramureș, Cluj and Bihor (in 2024).
This year's edition reaches 8 new counties (Bacău, Neamț, Gorj, Vâlcea, Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, Alba and Hunedoara), and the objective is for the project to involve over 1,300 teachers from 160 schools and over 20,000 students.
The long-term impact of the Creative Recycling Caravan is recognized by the sustainability community in Romania, the campaign being awarded repeatedly throughout 2024. Thus, the project received the GOLD distinction in the Reduce Reuse Recycle category in the Community Index 2024 ranking; Second Prize in the Environment category at the Romanian CSR Awards – Sustainable Companies Gala; Sustainable Business Hero Award at the Biz Sustainability Awards 2024 Gala; BUSINESS Magazin Most Responsible Companies in Romania Award in 2024; The Award for the Targets Achieved within the Quality Education Sustainable Development Goal at the Sustainable Romania Gala.
